TWG V: The Legend of Kyle: Breath of the Mild
« on: May 19, 2020, 07:11:24 PM »
"Kyle... Kyle... You are the light... OUR light... that must shine upon Hyrule once again... Now go."

It has been approximately one week since our hero, Kyle, last left the Great Plateau. After enduring countless torture from Octoroks, rain, Moblins, rain, Wizzrobes, and more rain, he finally reached the great region of Gerudo. Having been instructed by a mysterious voice and a lady named Impa, he departed in the direction of the desert to speak with the Gerudo people. "They will help you in your journey," Lady Impa had said, also pointing to three other people groups who would also ultimately help him in stopping the treacherous calamity that had befallen the land one hundred years prior. Little did Kyle know, though... there were certain people who didn't want his success to be realized...

WOLVES:
1. Master Kohga
Master Kohga is the Master Wolf and is seer'd as green. For one day phase of their choice, they can have their lynch vote count twice.

2. Yiga Footsoldier
The Yiga Footsoldier is a normal wolf and works with Master Kohga.

TOWN:
3. Lady Impa
Lady Impa is a seer. Each night, they can DM the host a participant's name, and they will receive the player's role color.

4. Champion Urbosa
Champion Urbosa is a modified vigilante (vigi). Each night, they can DM the host a participant's name, and that player will either be protected or die at the end of the night, at Urbosa's specification.

5. The Goddess Hylia
The Goddess Hylia
is a dreaming god who, during each night phase, must use one of their six powers. They will not know the function of each power, just the name. Once they have used a power, they cannot reuse said power.

6. Hylian No. 93
Hylian No. 93
is a normal townsperson. Yay.

THIRD PARTY:
7. Yellow Wizzrobe
The Yellow Wizzrobe is a third party that wins neither with town nor wolves. One night only, they may summon a thunderstorm that nullifies all other special roles and wolves and kills the bearer of the woodcutter's axe. They may also learn the identity of the bearer of the woodcutter's axe twice at any point during the game.

WIN CONDITIONS
Wolves win when the number of town equals the number of wolves.
Town wins when all the wolves are dead.
Yellow Wizzrobe wins if, when they activate their power, they kill a wolf.

WOODCUTTER'S AXE
One random person starts out with the woodcutter's axe. The item itself does nothing, but each night, the bearer of the woodcutter's axe may choose to pass the axe on to any player of their choice at any time during the night phase. The only people aware of the change when it happens will be the giver and recipient. When the Yellow Wizzrobe activates their power, the bearer of the woodcutter's axe will die at the end of the night phase when the lightning storm strikes.

LOGISTICAL RULES:
1. Unless otherwise stated, direct communication between players is allowed outside of the thread and main Discord text channels. The host must be added to each conversation, however.

2. Due to the complexity of this game, the default phase lengths will be 24 hours for night phases and 48 hours for day phases. The game will start on a night phase.

3. All lynch votes must be made in the game thread, with the lynch candidate's name bolded.

4. Actions will be prioritized in order of what happens in realtime, with the exception of vigi protections.

PLAYERS:
1. ThatHiddenCharacter
2. Cherry Draws Stuff
3. Magnet
4. Linkchu
5. Daj
6. Lucy
7. Seki

It is now Night 1. Night 1 ends on 5/20/2020 at 8 PM EDT, regardless of when the actual post is made.

The night was quicker than normal, but it was a quiet one to be certain... the wind blew sand across our hero's face... he had spent the night camped out at the bazaar, all the while those who actually had business doing productive things like not staring into fires like maniacs milled about, buying and selling wares. And crossdressing. Rumors of the Yiga Clan actually being helpful for once whipped up quicker than Vah Naboris's sandstorm, however, as those nearby whispered of a Yellow Wizzrobe that had been slain by them. The next morning indeed, the body of a Yellow Wizzrobe was found out near the Statues of the Seven Heroines, and next to it, a single, half-eaten Mighty Banana.

Kyle woke up... was it night already? Perhaps he had spent all his time sleeping through it, but the day was rather quiet... oh well, perhaps that was a good thing for him? He at least got some sleep out of it, right?

Kyle decided it probably wouldn't be good to become nocturnal, so instead he decided to sleep for the night, too. But when some discussion started happening in the town, he woke up to see what was happening...

It was a quiet night in Gerudo... it seemed as though all the desert held its breath following the Goddess Hylia's death and her bringing down of a Yiga Footsoldier with her. What would happen then? Kyle rested a bit more easily, knowing the threat was reduced, but... he didn't know that Master Kohga had slipped into the town, disguised as a Hylian (and somehow not looking as rotund). Unfortunately, Urbosa was all too aware of this, and while Master Kohga had snuck into the chambers of the inn, raising a knife and then plunging it into Kyle's chest, Urbosa was... bullying another... Hylian... this is even more surprising given the fact that Lady Impa's dead body was found, dragged behind one of the buildings with stab markings. How would Urbosa explain that? Well, it turns out, she was actually dead the whole time anyway, so it didn't really matter...

GAME OVER

Roles reveal:

The succuessful wolves-
Seki - Master Kohga
Linkchu - Yiga Footsoldier

The not-so-successful townies-
Daj - Urbosa
Magnet - Lady Impa
Cherry - The Goddess Hylia
Lucy - Hylian No. 93

The outcast third-party-
ThatHiddenCharacter - Yellow Wizzrobe

Cherry's powers:

1. Leviathan - prevents Discord discussion for the entire next day phase
2. Spirit - allows players targetted for death during night to survive for the next day phase; are not told they will die, but will die at end of day phase; lightning strike is exempt
3. Fire - immediately ends the current phase
4. Flood - prevents all private communication for full day/night cycle after night ends; wolves aren't exempt
5. Helm - protects the bearer of the axe from being killed for 1 night should Wizzy strike
6. Bazaar - reverses the seering made that night

A quick summary of special actions:
-Night 1, Mag started with the axe and sent it to Daj
-Night 1, Cherry used Bazaar, confusing Mag's seering
-Night 1, Mag seer'd THC as green
-Night 1, wolves killed THC
-Night 1, Daj protected himself after discovering he could do so
-Night 2, Cherry used Spirit
-Night 2, Daj protected himself
-Night 2, the wolves killed Cherry
-Night 2, Mag seer'd Cherry as green

Never once did Seki use Kohga's double vote power.

Alright, so before I get into player analysis, I want to thank everyone for playing and for participating in the end as much as you did. I was very worried throughout the game up until Day 2... so, as an overall game analysis, I would like to say that, while the game got interesting during Day 2, it also could only have been more boring in one way. And that is if Cherry woulf have picked Helm Night 2 instead of Spirit. Had she done that, the wolves would have won instantly and had no chance to mess it up (because Cherry would have died instantly), although maybe town would have realized the fact that they were so close to losing and gotten their act together? Who knows...

This game had a LOT of potential for chaos, but that chaos rided on the requirement that both THC remained alive and Cherry was... a bit better about picking powers that would change things radically. As you saw in the list, there were three that didn't really have much of a clear effect, and then there were three that would have completely changed the game. And yes, Leviathan was just my attempt at showing you how much better forum TWG is that Discord (although I'm glad she never used it, since it wouldn't seem like there would have been much participation either way...).

So now onto the part everyone cares about, player evals! Ima do these in no particular order, just whoever comes to mind first.

Seki: Okay, despite getting the flu, you played PHENOMENALLY as a wolf! You stayed low through most of it, and in the group DMs you had with Linkchu and others, you olayed it perfectly as though you hadn't been scheming and such with him beforehand. You weren't all that much of a leader wolf, ad your role implied, but you had some adverse circumstances. Turns out your double vote didn't really matter much anyway! You are the example of when inactive players become dangerous, because targetting them is sus (for any game I'm playing, anyway), but they could also very well be wolves flattening themselves to the ground...

Linkchu: There were several points throughout the game where I said in the spec chat that I should rename the game Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, because Kyle wasn't the hero here, it was Linkchu, heh. You basically had control of the game from the very start, although people didn't realize it. You took advantage of the lack of participation, and even though you ended up dying to a meta, you managed to pave the way for Seki's victory (with a little help from Mag and Lucy). You managed to draft a somewhat-legitimate sounding list of powers for your Hylia false claim, but you were too focused on what they did rather than just saying "idk man" and leaving it at that. I also didn't see you take as full advantage of all the information Mag leaked to you as you could've. Finding out Daj wasn't going to be protecting himself that night left open a perfect window...

Daj: Ummm... I don't know how much of you was "playing the part" or whatever, but lemme say that overconfidence goes nowhere. You say your role is OP, but it only was so far as Cherry's role didn't completely stop the game in its tracks. Fire would've messed you up hard. Same with THC having been alive, that would have also contributed to the paranoia. In hindsight, I shouldn't have allowed for roleflips for the sole purpose of the Yellow Wizzy, but that's enough about that, back to you. You kept making claims and things without really caring where they went or thinking them through prior to making them out of this overconfidence, which doesn't help town. Sure, it helps you and clear your name, somewhat, but you're still part of the town. Throwing half-hearted claims at people because you can won't help them deduce who the wolf is. You did well in orchestrating DMs and behind-the-scenes plans. Unfortunately, you also worked with an untrusting Mag who leaked off all the info you gave early on. There are no friends in mafia, indeed, even when it comes to trusting people. I also get that this is just you, but when you learned of Link's moves and plots, you started focusing only on praising him instead of keeping back to the shadows and focusing on helping town. Your role wasn't OP, but it was important. You can always save the praises for the postgame ;P Can't believe I almost forgot about this, but come on now, metagaming is okay for reading people's metas, sometimes, but that was just... too much X))

Cherry: You spent most of your game tilted because of Magnet, but we'll go past that. You started trying to make guesses on what your powers did, but you only guessed for two of them and didn't try to think about the others, that you told me anyway. Being that you hadn't played BotW, you were somewhat disadvantaged, but you could have narrowed them down at least through a quick search. For example, with fire, if you look into it, you'll find that fire does 4 things: burn things, damage you, cook things, and speeds up time. So that narrowed that down somewhat. The only one not from BotW was Flood, which was from Wind Waker, but the effects of a flood can only be so many in this context: kill lotsa people, or limit communication. Unless I'm not thinking too clearly right now. In any case, yeah, you had some crazy powers. If only you could have had more time to use them... (although you were preparing to use the now-useless Helm N3 :P)

Magnet: You certainly were the wild card this game. You made some good plays and you made some not so good plays. I think your best play of all, though, was when you backpedaled out of being on Linkchu's side. Sadly, Link had picked up on that... also from a player standpoint who didn't know Daj and Cherry were good, you did good in being uncooperative by not giving information, although you made it very clear you wrre being uncooperative, and if Daj didn't have such a big suspicion that you were just a clueless human, you would've been dead come nightfall, no questions asked. The big thing that I can think of for you is, when it came to Hylia's powers and you heard Bazaar, you instantly went raving against Cherry because there's no way Bazaar could have led to a confused seering, you thought. Unfortunately, when someone is given only one word for each power, that can lead to wider options than you'd think, although I would also like to think that, had you researched a bit more, you would've found that the Kara Kara Bazaar (good on finding that, by the way) is where Link goes to crossdress in order to get into Gerudo Town, by confusing the way the guards see Link. Sure, the memory was important, but in the context of the main game, the crossdressing was even more so. I'm honestly surprised you didn't find anything about it sooner, but whatever.

Lucy: Okay look, I wish I had some positives to say here. Sorry I don't, but your participation was minimal due to your sister's new Minecraft realm. And I get it, I really do, because each time the NinSheetMusic realm has reset, I've spent many hours with Bramble trying to get the Dragon Egg, but like, at least some heads-up to us in-game would have helped more than nothing at all. Other than that, the only advice I can give is, be careful of what you do when you're braindead, like you said you were. You instantly agreed to Link's claim, no questions asked, and that ultimately played a pretty big factor in town losing. No matter what, always explain everything you do in this game, and never blindly follow a person just because their reasoning at face value makes sense. Anyone's reasoning at face value makes sense in this game, otherwise the wolves wouldn't have a chance. And final piece of advice for you: you could have also just not done anything that night and come back when you could think clearly; you had time and a lot of it with the 48 hour day phases. Not saying any of the above to be mean, but I want to help you improve. You're a good player, but good players aren't above bad games.

ThatHiddenCharacter: I mean, you played as good as you could have for the time you were alive. You probably made a good call with the no talking N1. That does help, and generally there isn't much to talk about the first phase of the game, but I can't help but wonder if it also played into the inactivity of the rest of the game. Probably didn't, but you never know.

And with that, that's the game! Be looking out for more games from me in the future, all with stories, lots of experimental roles, and maybe a continuation of the BotM story (after Kyle resurrects, of course ;))
