”Po Town” (Pokemon SM) — arr. Latios212

Sheet music:
https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/Pokemon#sheet3319

You’d think it’s a ghost town, but it’s actually one of the darker themes of the Pokemon games—the actual living condition of those bad guy grunts we’re too used to beating up. The track is more haunting than creepy, and it’s particularly eerie when you reach this area. Especially when you realise this is a Pokemon game. Huh.

But anyway, Lat’s arrangement is very faithful to the original and about as clean as it gets! It’s quite an easy read and it’s pretty fun to perform. Definitely give it a shot on a quiet day :)

"Egg Planet (Good Egg Galaxy)" (Super Mario Galaxy) - arranged by Sebastian

Sheet music: https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/SuperMario#sheet772

One of the most iconic pieces from Super Mario Galaxy! It’s one of the first things you hear in game and does a great job at setting the stage for the grand majestic journey that awaits.

This arrangement does a good job of using several different textures across the piano to represent the different orchestral moods the original track goes through. The A section is simply changing chords above a rhythmic C bass. The B section recreates the high melody with a light accompaniment, and the C section goes all out with big bombastic strikes.

The first two pages or so are pretty straightforward to play, but there are a few quick jumps here and there that demand some practice. The last section can be pretty tricky to get right due to the big jumps and big chords. Take it slow and make sure you can hit the right notes before speeding it up a bit, and feel free to adjust the left hand pattern a bit if it's too difficult.

"Let's Go Home" (Pokemon RSE) - arranged by Latios212!

Sheet music: https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/Pokemon#sheet3045

It's a pretty cheesy and simple piano solo! Lat's arrangement doesn't add anything too flashy to the small-world feel of the original track, and this makes for a pretty fun read on a tiring day. I also hear that this plays at the game where you're shipped with either May or Brendan, which is pretty cool.

"Intro / Title Screen" (Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue/Red Rescue Team) - arranged by Bespinben

Sheet music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teJTmPCNS9g

Here’s the opening for the original Mystery Dungeon games - pretty much the same for DX :D It’s an energetic albeit short two-part track that immediately introduces the main melodic theme and sets the stage for the game and the series - creating a sound of adventure, mystery, and excitement.

Bespinben’s sheet here distills down the piece to its core elements and presents them in a manner that is very pianistic. There are a couple of big jumps here and there but overall this sheet is pretty simple and straightforward - and a joy to sight-read and play!

"Windmill Hut" (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time( - arranged by Seb![/u]

Sheet music: https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/TheLegendofZelda#sheet1457

(warning: 10 hours version but dang that thumbnail is great)

I...really don't need to say more, it's Song of Storms. A really fun piece to play, a really fun piece to play while pretending to be slightly tipsy, a really fun piece to play forever because that's definitely how long it seems to go on for while you're solving the actual Windmill Hut puzzle. But all-around, it's just such a fun and whimsical melody, and Seb's sheet is about as clean as it gets. Wonderful for any occasion and improvisation! ^^

"Main Theme" (Animal Crossing: New Horizons) - arranged by The Deku Trombonist

Sheet music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BklrvY0s6vg

The main theme from the latest Animal Crossing game that I’m having a lot of fun with right now :) I’ve never played through a previous Animal Crossing game, but this theme fits right in with the music from previous titles with its upbeat sound, chord choices, rhythms, and instrumentation.

Deku’s sheet provides a very clean way of playing the theme that carries over comfortably on the piano. The chords and voicings sound great and are smooth to play. While most of the notes aren’t too hard to hit, this sheet demands careful attention to the slurs and staccatos to ensure that you articulate the notes like in the original. Spend some time working out the right fingerings and where you’d like to use the pedal.

"Coronation Day" (Pokemon BW) - arranged by JDMEK5

Sheet music: https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/Pokemon#sheet2918

A one-page prelude into the epic Black and White tale! One of my favourite easy sheets, very well-done arrangement by JDMEK5. And you can over-exaggerate it too, like an old elder telling a historical legend!

On the technical side, this is pretty interesting too, because it demands a kind of staccato that is heavy but still detached. It takes a bit of pedaling fun and shenanigans relating to touching the keys, but that's a timbre you can toy with for this piece ^^

"Overture" (Katamari Damacy) - arranged by Th3Gavst3r

Sheet music: https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/Other#sheet4028

This is pretty much the only piece on Katamari Damacy’s soundtrack that shows any sort of restraint from all of the crazy stuff going on in the composers` minds (there’s some incredibly wacky and creative stuff, go check it out if you’re not already familiar with it!). But that’s what makes it so well suited for piano :P

Gav’s sheet is a clean accurate presentation of the original, a solo piano piece. But there’s a lot of color in it, as the rubato and chord changes are really fun to play around with. It’s not a super simple sheet to play, but it’s not very hard either. Take your time with it and make sure you hit all the right chords.

"Route 201 (Night)" (from Pokemon DPPt) - arr. Latios212!

Sheet music: https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/Pokemon#sheet4187

Fun fact: Latios212's "Route 201 (Day)" was the very first VGM piano cover I did after I started doing VGM Youtube in 2016! I played it in a singlet and as a "quick-learn"; it was an unlisted video meant just for the NinSheetMusic community, but Lat quickly dropped in to commend my ability and we started talking about sheets. And here we are today.

The Route 201 Night version is much easier to handle than the Day version, and Lat cut quite a lot of the difficult elements which made the Day version quite difficult to execute. It's a beautiful arrangement if you'd like to do something manageable and upbeat, and hey, I'm sure it's a nostalgic one for all of us ^^

"Don’t Ever Forget..." (Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky) - arranged by midimidicoffee

Sheet music: [sheets]

"Don't Ever Forget" is one of the pieces in the extremely emotional ending sequence of PMD Explorers. It's been a favorite of mine for a very long time, as it has for many others, and is a very special song :)

You may be familiar with Bespinben's arrangement of the medley that includes this piece. It’s a great arrangement, but very virtuosic and demands tons of practice to be able to execute well. In contrast, this arrangement foregoes any semblance of grandeur in favor of distilling the piece down to its melody and a simple, lightweight accompaniment.

And it’s a delight to play! The six flats and syncopated 16th note rhythms are a bit tricky at first, but with a bit of practice this sheet is incredibly satisfying to perform. The sheet presents as little as possible to flesh out the original piece, and this light sparse texture perfectly with the longing mood it invokes.

Thanks to kabbiju-san (on Discord) for sharing this one! You can watch the arranger’s video for the arrangement here:

"Surf" (Pokemon DPPt) - arr. Lat!

Sheet music: https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/Pokemon#sheet3866

I've probably never said this publicly, but this is (and has always been, since I recorded it two years back) my favourite arrangement from Lat's entire collection. The original track has pretty big contrasts between sections, but Lat does the contrast between sections a little more subtly, with expanding texture and register. This sheet plays incredibly smoothly, and all you need to do to feel its movement is to play all the notes. It's a masterful arrangement, so do give it a spin if you'd like to learn something a little showier. ^^

"Dire, Dire Docks" (from "Super Mario 64") - arr. Nacho2420!

Sheet music: https://www.ninsheetmusic.org/browse/series/SuperMario#sheet1711

What do you mean we haven't recommended this yet? It's "Dire, Dire Docks" from SM64, an incredibly simple and chill track I'm sure we all know! Really easy read, and very nice to play on a quiet night ^^
